Manufacturing Productivity

This post by Mark Perry is an important one; It needs to be repeated over and over again so that the myth that claims manufacturing in the U.S. has been waning or destroyed completely is finally debunked:

Workers today produce twice as much manufacturing output as their counterparts did in the early 1990s, and three times as much as in the early 1980s, thanks to innovation and advances in technology that have made today’s workers the most productive in history.

And that's American workers. Manufacturing employment is down but manufacturing productivity is at all time highs, folks. Let's keep it real.

Someone once told me that 'statistics don't lie but statisticians do.' People are bending the numbers about manufacturing in a ridiculous effort to cast aspersions on the strides we are making in this country after being on the brink of disaster. It's a pitiful attempt and an old canard. When you don't like the truth: lie.

VH is right because I use to work in tonawanda engine for GM and back in 1980s we had 80 people in the connector rods department, now they have 10 and have the same level of productivity.

The reason there is so much blight in manufacturing is because of the government. High taxes, strict environmental regulation, high energy costs and irrational unions have made manufacturing less competitive.
