We are better off...

Matt Ridley, author of "The Rational Optimist," makes the case that human beings are far better off now than in the past and make significant advances when free exchanges of ideas and trade flourish.

I had this discussion when someone was talking about how appealing the idea of wilderness homesteading was to her. And while the idea of being beyond gov't control is awesome. the idea of being separated from the benefits of modern life.

My dad and I were actually discussing this also, clearly modern life is the high-water mark for the standard of living in this country.

When was the freedom high-water mark?
