More Climategate!

Hmmm. It seems that this whole Climategate has indeed gone global:

An agency of the New Zealand government has been cooking the books to create a warming trend where none exists, according to a joint research project by global warming skeptics at the Climate Conversation Group and the New Zealand Climate Science Coalition. The chief cook? Dr. Jim Salinger, considered one of the country's top scientists, who began the graph in the 1980s when he was at the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia in the UK.

The plot thickens.

I don't know who to believe anymore. The weather is certainly different than it was when I was a child. We had much more snow then. We tend to watch the Discovery channel a lot and they do some pretty convincing pieces about it. My guess is that there is a lot of truth to global warming and entirely too much hype. Just give us straight up facts.

I read recently that 4 datasets on temperature are the fundamental pool from which thousands of climate scientists draw for research.

If true, that seems very strange. Imagine there being only 4 basic datasets on which the validity of General Relativity or Quantum Mechanics were accepted, rather than the thousands of experimental results used.

VH,

Just another FYI, the first link in this post has the same problem as described in the previous post.

(I do that all the time when composing a post.)

SBVOR, I have fixed the link. Thanks again for the heads up:)

Askcherlock: I agree...just the facts and leave out the hype. That would be nice, indeed.

Jeff: Yes, and some of these "tainted" datasets are being used as templates for public policy.

I'd give you the fact but I'm afraid they got tossed in the rubbish bin!

The weather will always feel different to when you were a kid. Then you had a different body, and less resistance to cold, a faster metabolism, less fat, a different diet both in amounts and quality, and you probably spent more time outside, and with different clothes, e.g. barefeet at times. A 40-yr old who is taller retains heat more than a child who has a smaller surface area.
besides, the time span of your lifetime is not a valid norm for the earth's temperature range, over glaciations and interglacials.
